My little girl just lost her first tooth *sniffle*. Years ago, I read of a method to preserve baby teeth that had to do with milk if I%26#039;m remembering correctly. At the time, I didn%26#039;t have any children, so didn%26#039;t think enough of it to commit it to memory. I know that teeth crumble to dust if they%26#039;re left to chance, because I tried to keep my nieces tooth and it only lasted about 5 years.
Thanks in advance for any insight!
How to preserve baby teeth?
Q: When a child loses a baby tooth, many parents like to keep it as a memento. How are baby teeth preserved so they do not become brittle?
A: I found that a mixture of about 75 percent water and about 25 percent glycerine serves as a good medium for storing lost baby teeth. After a while, however, don%26#039;t be surprised if you open the container and it doesn%26#039;t smell very pleasant! See if your dentist will sterilize the teeth before you preserve them.
Teeth become brittle as they dehydrate. Even in the mouth, after a root canal is performed, teeth lose their %26quot;hydration%26quot; internally because they lose the blood vessels which help nourish them. They are more brittle and prone to fracture. This is why it is usually recommended to put a crown on a tooth after a root canal.
Reply:my mom has my 26 year old sisters first teeth that have fallen out. They havent %26quot;crumbled to dust%26quot; i think it takes quite some time. They do look quite disguisting though
Reply:You don%26#039;t need to do anything ........just put them in a baby food jar or a baggie.
The milk thing is........if she happens to knock a tooth out root and all.........the dentist may be able to put it back in.........you place it in milk until you can get her to the dentist.
